De-Clutter Your House and Sell It Faster
Are you planning on selling your house? The first step is to de-clutter your home.
When selling a house, emphasis is often put on how appealing it is so the best thing to do is to de-clutter your home. Why? The emptier your house is, the better. You shouldn't strive to impress your potential homebuyer with your own décor or personal photos. The goal is to make it easier for them to imagine their own family living in the space with their own décor or photos around. But how do you de-clutter your home? Here are a few tips...
- If you want to de-clutter your home have a garage sale or donate items to local charities. You can earn extra money from either the sale or tax write-off.
- Store keepsakes or larger items you don't use on a regular basis in the garage or attic (or rent a storage unit).
- Remove excessive family photos or magazines, books, etc. from living spaces.
- Make sure your closets aren't filled to the brim.
- Bathroom and kitchen counters should be clear of medications, appliances, etc.
- Bedroom comforters/bedspreads should be the best you own or invest in new ones.
- Keep the entryway clean of shoes, coats and distracting pieces on the walls.
When it comes to the exterior of de-cluttering your home, find another area for extra vehicles, or a boat, rather than the yard or driveway. Also, scrub and paint what you can; then follow it up with a power-wash. Keep the grass mowed, the gardens looking lively and clear away any ‘outdoor junk' like toys and flowerpots.
When you De-clutter your home it doesn't need to be an awful task. But it does take time, and dedication, to keep it looking fresh and spacious. If you follow these steps though, you'll be selling your home sooner than you think.
